Default 2ND Carbed LS in da house.

70 chevelle

Just getting started and have a ton of stuff to buy, but these are my plans

5.3
thumpr cam 2nd stage
msd box
carb-750 cfm brand undecided
afco ls1 radiator and electric fan
flowmaster xhaust
stock heads for now-probably be a year before funds allow any upgrade
headers-undecided-looking for a brand that actually fits
turbo 350 trans-phoenix transmission and stall

I'm doing the same thing in a 66 El Camino. What motor mounts did you use? Was the MSD hard to hook up? Where did you mount the MSD controller? I'm hoping a set of LS1 C5 Corvette exhaust manifolds fit. What are you using? I'm going with a 200-4R. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

your best bet on manifolds are going to be 98-99 LS1 manifolds that are stainless. All the others are cast iron. The C5 do not fit very well at all.

As for those stock heads, with that low compression 5.3L you will lose power if you change to a LS6 or LS1 head. the best bet is to deck your existing heads and install larger valves.

We just built a 1979 4WD Chevy with a 5.3L and TH-350 with just a carb and it was a powerhouse burning 35in tires. We mounted the MSD box on the firewall though. We felt it looked better then on the intake.

i think you'll have to try the trial and error method with exhaust manifolds on that particular ch***is. with regard to the msd box, i would suggest mounting it somewhere inside the cabin so you can hook your laptop up to it and make timing adjustments on the fly. a local guy here is using this setup in a 93 mustang coupe with a radical lsx motor in it with no trouble. he had the msd box mounted inside the car, plugged in and wired up in about an hour.
