hi guys,

I just joined today and have so many questions I dont even know where to begin. i have a 1988 MCSS with a 350 GM Crate motor and stock computer controlled carb. i want to move to some sort of LSX engine and get some high HP since I have to make it worthwhile as my crate motor is rated at 300HP. Whats a good FI motor with high HP that will work in a MCSS? What is a complete list of modifications to make it work?

Try looking around the site for a while. There is tons of info for your monte already listed. I have been reading and rereading everything in prep for my ever-in-the-future 6.0L swap for my '84 monte.

You can drop a truck 5.3L or 6.0L motor and get close to 400 HP with only a camswap get better MPG and not have to break the bank. These motors are low cost and easy to find

your alive! thanks for posting. Are you referring to the LY6 series that I have had my eye on for a 88 MCSS swap?

Can you provide a list/kit of all items needed from mounts, tank, wiring, etc for a Monte Carlo SS? This would be amazingly helpful! Thank you

Truck motor and 4L60 or 4L80

KWIKPERF.com PS and ALt relocation kit

Wiring Harness mod

Use 1987 6 CYC EFI motor or Buick GM tank

EFI fuel pump able to able 58 Pounds of line pressure

Mounts, oil pan and crossmember

new crossmember

Tune for the computer

Cut a small hole in the hood support for the TB on the truck intake

OR you can bolt on a LS3 car intake i have a couple of these as take outs for $300 which will bolt on.

Stretch the floor pan for fit the 4L80, this will take a body hammer and some dimpling of the floor to clear.

Gauges for the mew motor, or kits from Abbots for the speedo and tach

Retap the motor for sensors for oil, coolant

Add a HD radiator

let me know if i can help in any other way or if you need more details about any part of the swap

When swapping to the car intake is anything else needed that's not on the truck motor and intake?

The car intake will bolt onto the VVT truck motors with no mods. The car intakes are complete with injs and fuel rails minus the throttle body which you can use the OEM truck one.

Shawn,

I am in the process of picking up an LS2 out of a '08 Trailblazer SS. My question is will the LS- car intake fit without the issues you talk about with LY9 water pumps, etc??

The intake will physically bolt up to the cylinder heads provided that the intake ports are the same shape. The throttle body will contact the water pump in some cases. study the swap information carefully, it will work. get the mounts and exhaust from a place like Prodigy Customs, they have done a ton of lsx conversions and they KNOW the deal. The acessory drive pulleys and brackets will need study to have them mount onto the engine. Once its in your chassis you dont want anything contacting the frame, like the a/c compressor, since it mounts low on the pass. side of the block. Study, read, study some more, you only know about 1/2 of what you will ultimately need in order to sucessfully swap the engines, but it is well worth the work.
