So I needed a new motor for my 1968 c10. It had a 350/TH400 combo. The old motor needed rings, bearings, new cam, lifters, etc. I figured instead of spending money on the old motor that I should build the carb'd 6.0 that I have always wanted. This truck is my senior project for high school, so I am trying to keep on some kind of budget. So far the plan is:
- 2002 LQ4 out of a Denali. Has 100k when pulled
- Keep stock short block (for now)
- Swap the 317 heads for some L92's
- GMPP Carb Intake
- TH4OO
- 3500-4000 stall
- Comp Thumpr Cam
- Holley or Demon 750
Here are a few pics of my progress so far

I traded my 317 heads and some cash for a set of L92's, but one cylinder dropped a valve. The motor was out of a 2007 Escalade with 7k on it. The whole motor was pulled under warranty. The machine shop quote to fix it is $110. While they are in the machine shop, is there anything I can have done to help increase HP? I have been told that I can mill a little off to bump up the compression, is this a good idea? And is there any porting or polishing that can be done? Oh, and do the pushrods from the 317 heads fit the L92's?

Got the valley cover off
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h107/stevehenriksen/1968%20Chevy%20Truck/get-attachment-2aspx-15.jpg
And have some more questions.
When I use the MSD box do I reuse any of the stock harness from the coil packs?

And I have two flexplates, one from my motor and another from the 2007 caddy motor. They seem to be exactly the same, is one better?

And I have a couple coats of paint on the valve covers now, and also on the valley pan.

Just a little update pic. Got a box full of junkyard parts, a starter, alternator, and power steering pump. Man the starters for these engines are small compared to SBC starters! I like it.

I still don't have the right size puller to get the balancer off, so the motor just sits under plastic. I need to make time to go to harbor freight.

Looks like you got a good start there, those L92's will wake that 6.0 up for sure. Keep us up to date!

Thanks guys, I have a new valve on order from sdparts and they are taking forever to get it out, along with new gaskets and timing chain. I can't wait, as soon as I get all the stuff back I can start reassembling the motor. There is plenty to do in the meantime, like relocating the fuel cell to under the bed, reinstalling the interior and adding 5 point harnesses, setting up extra gauges, etc. I will update here when some progress is made

I got home from an exciting weekend riding and found parts!
The new intake valve for the L92, the damn thing is almost as big as my VW key! I can't wait to get the heads back together :D
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h107/stevehenriksen/1968%20Chevy%20Truck/IMG_1652.jpg
And .49 Cometic head gaskets....... supposed to give me like 10.6:1 or something close to that.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h107/stevehenriksen/1968%20Chevy%20Truck/IMG_1656.jpg
And a bunch of other gaskets, seals, new crank bolt, MSD Super Conductors, etc.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h107/stevehenriksen/1968%20Chevy%20Truck/IMG_1653.jpg
And a new double roller timing chain!
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h107/stevehenriksen/1968%20Chevy%20Truck/IMG_1661.jpg
Tomorrow I have the day off school, so I can get the parts to the machine shop, start assembling the bottom end of the motor, and work on getting the interior and fuel system together. Now I just need head and intake bolts!
