Retro you seem to know your shit when it comes to the LSx. I'd like to build an LQ9 in the (hopefully) not too distant future. My goal is 500+hp to the flywheel. I plan on a stock bottom end, other than maybe new flat-top pistons and a .030 Bore. Stock L92's for heads, and a street/strip friendly cam. I know I want to go Fuel Injected. I was researching some stuff and came across a guy running a High-RPM 4.8 with a Victor Jr. Carb intake and an edelbrock elbow and GM (I think) TB. Would this be good for my goal, or would I be better off going with the GMPP carb intake and an aftermarket TB?

Glad I got to this before anyone replied. I completely forgot about the L92's having the cathedral ports for some reason, and the victor jr intake is made for the 317 heads. I know that GMPP intake is designed for the L92 heads, and thats what GMPP is using on the 620hp LSx 454 so it must be able to support the power numbers I have in mind.

The LQ9 has the LS2 bottom end and you can run it to over 500 HP without any work i have one im building with just some worked 5.3L heads and plan to make a little over 500 HP. Your right the original heads will be the cathedral design but the L92 will have the rectangle set up. GM and the aftermarket have plenty of intakes for either. With the EFI set up why do you want to run a car style intake?
Did you get the login problem worked out? i played with it and i think i had it worked out?

Login is fine now thanks. Basically just wanted to use the carb intake and elbow to be different. I love the look of it, kinda like a happy medium between old school and new technology. If it's gonna kill the wallet i'll scrap the idea, but I don't think it'll be too much for the elbow and Intake mani.

From what I have read, the Victor Jr. flows better than the GMMP intake. I bought a Victor Jr for my 408 with cathedral ports, and I spent several hours opening up the runners. They needed a full .125" more width to match my heads, and I also took a lot of aluminum out of the runner entrance. Unfortunately I don't have a flow bench to validate my work.

Why did you have to open up the runners if the intake mani was made to fit those heads? I don't want to have to do much machine or custom work, theres only a place or two around here that can do this stuff and it's pretty expensive.

retro I have more questions. You see I someday plan to build the LQ9 (370") with L92's, GMPP Inatke, etc. I was thinking and researching about the carb style throttle bodies. If I use a 4bbl TB on top of the GMPP Intake can I run a carb plate Nitrous Kit and just tune the ECM for it?

Bringing this back, can I run factory style EFI on a carb intake and 4bbl TB, and use a nitrous plate kit, and tune the ECM for the N20?

I just thought I would add some more assurance that the LQ9 will take the power. We've built LOTS of LQ9s. Most of them with stock shortblocks and they've been put on nitrous, blowers, and all sorts of abuse. I know that several of them have been dynoed at over 600hp. They've all held together extremely well.
