Hello everyone. My name is Randy and I have a 1983 Monte Carlo Ss that I have been working on for about 12 years now. I took the body off the frame and repaired all rust in the floors and repaired the rear frame rails that were rotted out. I assembled the frame with all Hotchkis suspension and Baer 4 wheel discs which are cross drilled and slotted as well. The car is lowered 2 inches and I was at the point of getting the car painted until....I found out the car and I are going to Virginia. Due to the inspection process, I am converting the car to a LS1 in order to bring the car up to current technology and be in a better place to pass the inspections.

I am currently reading about this swap and wonder which way is the best way to go? I see a lot of you doing 6.0 truck motors and switching cams to a Z-06? Or BRP in GA told me to stick with a 98-02' F-Body drop out? So I look forward to tearing the car apart again to tear out the 305 and start moving forward with this. I'm sure you have all been in this situation so if you have any hindsight that you feel will help me then please let me know.

I'm also trying to do this on a budget of around $3,500-$4,500.

Its a ton of options and budget makes a big part of it, a good LS1 combo is going to run 2500-3500 and eat up a chunk of the budget. What kind of power are you after? A good 5.3L is super cheap and the LC9 5.3L is all aluminum and makes more power then a LS1 does stock at a TON cheaper with less miles. Are you going EFI? Ill give you call today after i read your PM and get you a better idea of some options for your swap.
