Just got brought over here from the montecarloSS boards which I was linked to on my home site turbobuick.com. Just blew up my motor in my 87 GN and I'm seriously contemplating dropping in a 5.3 or 6.0 truck motor. Of course with a GN it's going to have to be turbocharged
Just trying to get some more info on this swap + turbocharging + tuning etc etc. :D

Let us know how we can help! Are you going to build the truck pullout? If so the company I get my motors from has a complete LQ4 that’s a Mystery mile set up they will sell cheap. If not keep your eyes out I have seen several 5.3L engines that with boost run 9s! Hotrod ran a issue of this early this year in a ford and he still had the truck intake plastic popping out of the hood like a shaker hood! It was a mystery 5.3L with just a LS6 cam!

Well as we speak unfortunately I don't have the room or tools to build it myself so I'd like to give you a call to see about a motor and an install. As far as the exact motor I still don't know the exact specs as far as LQ9 vs LQ4, 5.3 vs 6.0, which is better for boost, etc. I'd like to go on the cheap though, so a cammed 5.3/4L80E with a turbo sounds like a good, cheap option
Do/have you guys done any turbo installs or do you mainly just focus on NA swaps??

Turbos are a little more work but the big deal is getting it tuned in. Luckily Vengeance racing is down the road and can do the final tune for us. A cheap 5.3L iron block should do the trick and if you blow it up replacement short blocks are stupid cheap! The 4L80 will take some work to fit under the tunnel but holds more power. I’m on my 4th 4L65 in my 500+ HP lS2 and with boast you tear up a stock 4L60. What power are you after?

I'm wanting to get close to 500-600rwhp with a big front mount intercooler, and maybe a 76mm on pump gas. And I'd want to keep power steering, A/C, etc.
After doing more research I definitely would go with a 5.3 truck motor with maybe a cam swap, and leave the rest stock. If it blows, it blows. Not nearly the expense bill of blowing up a 109 3.8 GN motor.
Just trying to do the math in my head if parting out my current motor + selling my built 2004r trans + the money I would use to build a new 109 would be more or less money than the full 5.3/4l80 swap with a turbo kit built.

I sent you a PM the other day, but not sure if it went through or not. I'm trying to get a parts list together of everything that I would need to fully complete the swap. This is assuming I keep the stock 2004R and just swap in a 5.3 and fab up a turbo kit.
-5.3 LSX motor with accessories ($1000-1200)
-LS6 cam + springs ($350)
-LS1 intake to clear hood ($150)
-PCM and engine harness ($??)
-Motor mounts ($200?)
-Truck exhaust manifolds ($?)
-Adapter plate to mate to 2004r trans ($?)
-Eight 60lb injectors ($400)
-Fuel pump setup with pump/lines ($?)
-All exhaust tubing + intercooler tubing + clamps ($??)
-Turbo + Wastegate + BOV ($1400)
-Downpipe + mufflers + exhaust ($?)
-Tuning software + dynotune ($900?)
Is there anything I'm missing?
Also, when we spoke on the phone you gave me a rough estimate for labor on doing the swap, did that include the turbo fabbing or just motor/trans? Feel free to take this to PM, I just couldn't get it to send through when I tried. :D
